How To Clean Your Dab Rig
Dab Rigs are the new Bong, an updated smoking device for the modern era. Since there is no combustion involved, less resin and other buildup is created but you still have to deal with reclaim which is really quite sticky. This oily residue collects inside of your rig and it can cause it to clog after repeated use. Follow the simple steps in the guide below to learn how to properly clean your rig and restore it back to its original glory.
Needed Materials and Ingredients
Everything needed for cleaning your rig are also general household items that you can probably find in your own home. You will need to gather:
- Isopropyl alcohol (90% or higher)
- Dab Torch
- Coarse salt
- Sealable plastic bag or container
- Cotton Swabs (Similar to the ones pictured below)
To begin cleaning your rig, remove any water present in the percolation chamber. Position your nail on the rig and heat it up with your dab torch. Nails are made for handling high temperatures. Heat up the nail longer and hotter than you would usually do for a dab and this will help to burn off any residue to present. If the nail is still dirty, allow it to cool to room temperature and use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to swab the surface.
Step 2 - Soak The Nail in a Bag or Container
For really stubborn heavily used bangers or nails you may need to soak it in a resealable bag or container. Put the nail in your container and cover it with isopropyl alcohol. At minimum, let the item soak for an hour but it won’t hurt to let it go for longer. If using a bag, you can add some coarse salt to provide some abrasive action while you shake it periodically. After the soak and shake, your nail should be considerably cleaner.
Step 3 - Add Alcohol to the Perc Chamber
This step can be performed simultaneously while your banger nail is soaking. Fill the perc chamber with rubbing alcohol through the lower pipe opening. You don’t need a lot, but just enough to swish around the inside surfaces. For stubborn residue, add coarse salt to create a cleaning solution.
Step 4 - Shake the Pipe
If you have specialized plugs go ahead and insert them in the pipe openings. If not, then just cover the pipe openings with your fingers or hands and shake the pipe vigorously to remove residue from the pipe surfaces.
Step 5 - Rinse Pipe Until Clean
After all of the residue has been removed from the inside surfaces, dump out the cleaning solution and then rinse several times with clean water until sufficiently clean. Use your clean pipe and taste the difference in the flavor of your concentrates.
